GMIM: New Year, Same Me

Welcome to another installment of Good Mourning, it’s Monday! This weekly blog looks to cover various topics in the news, along with personal stories or encounters from the past week at home and work to help you through your first day back at work (unless you don’t work). Hopefully my seven followers like this and share this to make it eight. Enjoy…

Clocking In

Weather: 8 degrees
Traffic: The ole “forget something at the house, turn back, and end up in more traffic” maneuver
Breakfast: Water and some sort of organic protein bar that tasted like rubber
Zach arrival time: 9:30 (sitting at desk at 9:45… will explain later)
Mornings without Starbucks: 252 (as of Monday)

Monday Mourning Metaphor

When your email has a small, but serious typo:

Well, we’re back

I wrote last year that this week is one of the worst in terms of returning to work. But I didn’t expect this year to be worse.

There’s several factors that make this year suck:

  1. I was in Miami less than a month ago… on a beach… swimming… in 80 degree weather.
  2. This has been the coldest week of the winter thus far. Temps in single digits, with overnight temps well into the negatives. (side note: Saturday’s low will be -13. YA!!!)
  3. A blizzard is coming Thursday.

This week I’ve had to wear extra layers of clothing and bring a separate outfit to wear in the office. So I get to work on time, but then have to change in a goddamn bathroom when I get to the office, just to be running late. Love it.

Thankfully the “how was your new year” talk has been minimal, probably because everyone else is just as miserable as I am, which I don’t mind.

Office is closed Thursday, so I have a lot of shoveling and snowblowing to look forward to. Let’s hope the house is warmer than 58 degrees. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Why not.
