Men’s Volleyball Falls in ECAC Finals

OWINGS MILLS, Md. –The Wentworth Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team finished as the runner up in the ECAC Division III Championship, defeating Southern Vermont in three sets in the semifinals and falling to Stevenson 3-1 in the championship match Saturday afternoon at Owings Mills Gym. This marked the third straight season the Black & Gold have advanced to the championship and the defending champions were matched up with Stevenson in the finals for a second straight season.

Men’s Volleyball’s Tournament Run Halted by Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Jeffrey Vautrin (Chicopee, Mass.) recorded 11 kills and eight digs, while adding a pair of service aces, as the Lasell College men’s volleyball team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology 3-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament semifinal match Thursday night at Lasell.

With the win the second-seeded Lasers improve to 23-8 overall and will travel to top-seeded Rivier on Saturday to determine the GNAC champion and the conference’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Tournament, slated to begin on April 18. The Leopards sit at 22-8 and await a possible at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament or their third straight appearance in the ECAC Tournament. Continue reading

Men’s Volleyball Advances to GNAC Semifinals

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Jon Roat (Macedon, N.Y.) and sophomore Jake Reed (Arvada, Colo.) each had a match-high 15 kills, as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team defeated Emerson 3-0 in the first round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday night in Tansey Gymnasium.

With the win the Leopards improve to 22-7 while the Lions wrap up their season at 13-13. Wentworth, which won its first GNAC Tournament match in the four years the Black & Gold has been a member of the league, will travel to second-seeded Lasell for a semifinal match on Thursday night. NASHUA, N.H. – Senior Chris Markuson (Cupertino, Calif.) had a match-high 19 kills while adding a pair of service aces, as the Rivier College men’s volleyball team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Muldoon Gymnasium.

Wentworth finishes the regular season at 21-7 overall (10-4 GNAC), while Rivier finishes 18-9 (13-1 GNAC) to take the top spot in the regular season GNAC standings for the eighth straight season. Continue reading

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team won a pair of matches Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match at Tansey Gymnasium, defeating Emerson (25-11, 25-18, 26-24) and Johnson & Wales (25-23, 25-20, 25-23) in three sets each.

Wentworth improves to 20-5 (9-2 GNAC), while Emerson stands at 3-12 (2-9 GNAC) and Johnson & Wales is 18-8 (6-4 GNAC). This marks the third straight season – and fourth time in the last five seasons – the Black & Gold have eclipsed the 20-win mark. Continue reading
